Portugal, 2014 — iPhone photography

In 2014, I travelled through Portugal with an iPhone in my hand and no intention of creating a formal photographic series. I was simply observing—following the light, the streets and the quiet details that interrupted my path.

Doors, windows, passages and weathered surfaces became more than architectural fragments. They appeared as thresholds: openings between the visible world and something more internal. I began to see them as stargates—portals into memory, history and states of mind.

The limitations of the iPhone encouraged instinct. There was no elaborate equipment and little distance between seeing and recording. Each photograph became an immediate response to a place: imperfect, intimate and honest.

Looking back at these images now, I understand that I was not only photographing Portugal. I was documenting a moment of introspection—searching through the exterior world for traces of something within myself.

These photographs remain a visual journal of that journey: light against shadow, past against present, and the persistent possibility that an ordinary opening may lead somewhere unexpected.
